The Brinsea Difference

What is The Brinsea Difference?

The quality of an incubator can dramatically effect hatch rates for your eggs. Although there are many other factors to consider, there is no doubt that the higher the quality of your incubator, the more likely it is that every egg will hatch. Brinsea's Octagon 20 Advance incubator is one of their best selling models. It's temperature stability is fantastic throughout the machine and at least twice as good as its nearest competitor.

Brinsea products are leading the way with incubation technology and they have a long 35 year history of success in which they have created a large range of incubators and accessories.

'I’m a great fan of Brinsea and would choose them every time. Good hatch rates and never let me down’ Sandy Lee

'My Brinsea Ova Easy Advance Incubator is fantastic. I reckon that my incubator is almost as good as a broody hen for hatching.' Rob, Ireland

'Thought I'd give you some feedback on the Ova Easy we came over to buy from you in April. In 20 odd years of incubation and hatching we've never had such good results, the machine just looks after itself, quietly getting on with the job. The humidity pump was an excellent investment, takes all the worry out of whether there's enough or too much water being offered. One big problem we have.....where do we put all the chicks?? Might have to move house at this rate!' Jackie Mottram, Cheshire

Antimicrobial Plastics

Egg Incubators are the perfect breeding grounds for bacteria due to the warm and moist conditions the incubators create. Bacteria inside the incubator can often harm your chances of hatching as they threaten to infect the developing chick. Instances where bacteria are to blame are often very hard to spot and the breeder is often left with unexplained hatching failure.

Although it is always best practice to clean your incubator inbetween hatches, Brinsea incubators now contain 'antimicrobial plastics' designed specifically to combat bacterial build-up during the incubation period.

The plastics are formed using Biomaster™ silver nano technology which was originally developed for medical applications. The plastics are effective against 99% of bacteria and give your chicks the best chance of success when hatching from the incubator.

Periodic Cooling

Classical theories surrounding egg incubation suggest that constant, stable temperatures are critical if you wish to incubate your eggs successfully. But new evidence has shown that not only is periodic cooling does not just leave the eggs unharmed, it actually improves the hatch rates of egg batches!

Of course, when using the best incubator in the world - the natural broody hen - the eggs are regularly left to cool as the hen leaves the eggs for food, drink and toilet time! For the past 35 years, Brinsea products have been very successful at mimicing the natural nest conditions which is why they have recently introduced the cooling option on their incubators.

When it comes to successful egg incubation, every little helps. In the case of the new cooling option, the average user of the Octagon 40 Advance can expect one extra hatch per full batch.

The cooling feature on Brinsea incubators will turn off the incubator’s heater and low temperature alarm for a selectable amount of time, the fan will keep on running throughout the cooling period. Once the cooling period is finished the incubator will then return to its normal temperature with the alarm reset automatically. If you do not want the cooling feature, it can be turned off altogether. The default setting is that cooling is set to off, otherwise you can set cooling periods of 60, 120, 180, 240, 300 and 360 minutes at fixed 24 hour intervals. This new function applies to the Advance and Advance EX versions of the Mini, Octagon 20, Octagon 40, OvaEasy 190 and OvaEasy 380 models.

Upon reviewing the research, Brinsea concluded that smaller poultry, waterfowl and game bird eggs are best cooled for 2 hours each day. Whereas, larger eggs (e.g. duck and goose) are cooled for 3 hours each day from day 7 through to 2 days before they are due to hatch (the same point that automatic turning would normally be turned off). Cooling is not recommended for parrots and birds of prey because the results of cooling for these species haven’t yet been established. This cooling feature is an option which can be enabled to improve your hatch rates.
